Happy Place

Favorite pens, in a mug holding fond memories, in front of my color chart. Happy little spot.

Pastel Dream

Just listed this tiny pastel colored dream. Makes a great gift! This 9"x6" gem is only $80.00 to your door. Easy! colorcatstudios101.etsy.com

Oh my goodness, I LOVE this!

Do you see the words peeking through?

This is close to the same shot as one above, but a little camera shift caught some different color nuances.

The variation from color to color just makes my eyes keep circling the painting.

Geranium Painting, Mixed Media

I just finished a beautiful little geranium piece in mixed media.  I really love the colors in this, and laid them down one on top of each other, to mix on the paper.  This way, you can see how the colors blended to make new colors and enjoy all the nuances in between.

You can see that the first layers contain words - I pulled them out of a Spanish or Latin dictionary. Because I love languages, I alternately pull from them and believe that they add an incredible amount of interest.

After the initial drawing and layers of color, I also added some postage stamps.  I've been a stamp collector for most of my life, and only recently did I realize why I do this - I'm just collecting pictures!  Of course!  What do artists do but look at and collect pictures!

Especially in the petals I love these reds and the layers of color, one on top of the other.  It is here where I think the words peeking out are most seductive.

For the life of me, I can't remember if these are watercolors or acrylics.  I water my acrylics down a lot and use them as watercolors, so it really could be either/or.  Love the colors and drips in this closeup of the head.

Oh, so pretty the way the colors gradate one into the other.  I like the crazy bird, too, looking, of course, into the painting.

This mixed media piece is available for sale at colorcatstudios101.etsy.com.

Daniel Buren

We're looking at #Installation #art in my classes. I consider #danielburen to be one of the best. Gary and I experienced his exhibit when we were in Paris.  Unforgettable.

When we stood under each color, we were embued with that color and feeling. Here's yours truly. Loving it.

My Painting Style

One of my favorite painting tools. An old gift card; often my 'brush' of choice. If you want to recycle your gift cards, toss them at me.  Let me know if they have money on them; I guess I'd have to make the supreme sacrifice of emptying them before use. #colorcatstudios.etsy.com ☺️

'A Moment' Explained

Here is my lovely horse. People wonder why this name.  I named him 'A Moment' because I painted it as if he paused in his movements just long enough to acknowledge you, for you to see his beauty, then, I am sure, he will go on with his business.

If you look closely, you will note that the brush strokes in the background are entirely diff rent, showing lots of movement and upset.  The air moves around him, co ti using to move as he stops.  A moment.

Chicken Suit Painting

My students make me very, very happy.  I told them that one great reason to make art is to remember, to preserve memories.  She wanted to remember the chicken suit she wore for Halloween.

Seriously, I think my body releases endorphins when I look at this cheery chick!

Art Supplies

Another week of passing out cool art supplies to my students! This week it's Pitt pens.  They're the best for many reasons. I like their archival quality and have found that they are the best pens for staying put when I hit them with water, paint and whatever else I can lay hands on.

Love these pens! From these come wondrous things.

Landscape Acrylic

I love the layers of color in this one, with some hidden textures supporting it all. Here's a closeup of 'Outside My Window.'

For sale at

And one more...

Ooohhh... love this one!
