Sketching in Art Class

Yes, I know these are terrible sketches, but they were super fast ones. Had a hilarious, fun time with my youngest students today taking turns dressing up and doing two minute modeling stints so we could draw each other.  Two minutes was about as long as any of my students could pose, haha! Here are a few of mine. Oh, my darling students. Love these goofy, wonderful little people.

Art Class in Session

Back to work for me meant I got to make art and be with kids all day.  And share my lovely new Winnie the Pooh book.  At this point in the semester we’re getting heavy into mixed media.  LOVE my students.  :)

Lino Printing in my Advanced Art Class

In my advanced art class I’m teaching my students linoleum printing.  Oh, what FUN!  As a woodcarver I have found that this is soo much easier, ever so relaxing and beautiful as well. And once you get those printing blocks carved, you can go into printing production until the house burns down around you and you realize you haven’t eaten for three days.

Below are some of the linoleum blocks carved, and some of the printed works below them.  You see varying darknesses of ink; the second printing in a go is called the ‘ghost’ and I often prefer it to the first printing.

This one is a little print I made and laid out in the classic fashion.

I love printing on top of already painted works.  For me it’s all about layers. And here, some of our tools.

In-Class Drawing Demos

Another one of my quick sketch in-class demos, this time of my all-time favorite stuffed animal. I’m teaching my students about space, line, texture, values and contrast, inferred lines and a little artist’s prerogative. The next time you want a sketch or painting, ‘just pick up the phone, just give me a call.’

Art Teacher Preparations

Remember your teachers, people, because we spend August working like crazy people whilst you are laying around the pool. I’ve laid up $1,000.00 worth of supplies (you’re welcome, Jerry’s Artarama) so far in preparation for my classes.  A couple classes are full, but I still have a bit of room in my others.  Teaching in The Woodlands and in Conroe.  For formal homeschool classes in all subjects, check us out at:

www.hisclasses.org

 (The Woodlands)

And,

(Conroe)

And by the way, if you are looking for a FABULOUS pencil, find those big Jet Blacks at Jerry’s.  LOVE.

2017/2018 Art Students, Second Installation

I was going to publish the second half of my art students, but can’t find the pictures! ARG.

BUT... very important... this young lady.  She received the OFFICIAL Most Improved Award this year, and richly deserved it.  She went from extreme perfectionism, which is very frustrating and crippling in art, to being able to critique her work and being able to improve and rework it without throwing it away.  This girl has produced some lovely work and GROWN!

Art Students

Here are my art students from 2017/2018 school year. Love these guys SOOOOOO much!

It doesn’t take very long for my classes to get to be family, due to the nature of our study and the way I work.  By the end of the year, it can be a pretty sad last few classes!

Private Art Lessons

Thursdays are my private lesson days.  We cover all those lovely things that artists deal with every day like line, value, stump use, contrast. Generally in my privates we get about as much done as in a month of classes, and they’re fun! If you’re interested in private art lessons, message me and we can talk.

My email address is @colorcatstudios@gmail.com.

Cookie Artist Palette

Seems a fitting way to end a year of art classes, doesn’t it?  NO, I didn’t make these; one of my students did. And they tasted even better than they looked! Yum.

Student Winner

And this year’s Official Most-Improved Student Paint Bucket Award goes to... da da da da.... Megan Savaso!  Wow, Megan, way to go!  This award is no small thing.  Megan came in to my class timid and unsure of her work, striving for perfection (which is a really difficult and extremely frustrating, sometimes crippling problem in art).  I’ve seen her grow into an artist who can lay down paint that moves the wrong way and adjust with the flow, producing painting after beautiful painting.  I am REALLY, REALLY proud of you, Megan!

Art Teacher’s Car

What’s in your front seat?  This is very typical for me.  Art Supply and Art Teacher Transport Vehicle is at your service.  There is paint all over this car, in and out. What do you carry in your car?

I teach classes in two locations, The Woodlands and Conroe.  In The Woodlands it’s with the HIS Classes,

www.hisclasses.org

And in Conroe it’s with The Training Center.  www.ttcclasses.com

I also teach private lessons in my home and will be offering summer classes.  The summer class schedule will be coming out very soon!

Art Class Signups!

All in a day’s work.  And this is AFTER the cleanup! I am so thankful that part of my job is to play with kids! Our 2018/2019 class schedules are up in both locations and I added an Advanced Art Class as well.  Check out  Tc classes.com and www.hisclasses.org for schedules and registration.

Trust me,it takes my entire car to accept all this stuff.  Art supplies are practically brimming out the windows sometimes.  And note my coolio gum wrapper purse that one of my students gave me.  She said it’s from Cozumel.  Some people travel on spring break.  We clean our house.
