Watercolor Sketch

I love doing quick watercolor sketches of people. This was a demo for mixed media in my classes. First, I laid it out with a fine point pen and went to bigger nibs as I corrected. Not much into the erasing thing. The background and hair were layered with gesso and painted. Nice textures and interest are created with gesso and it moves and separates the sedimentary paint pigments. I like it!  Yes, I do commissions.

Horse Commission Finished

Just finished this gorgeous horse commission. This is a little cutaway, more soon. He’s in the varnishing stage now. ❤️ yes, I do commissions.  Just ask!

I’m still working on getting some goodphotographs of this... stay tuned and I’ll give you more details as I finish up.

For now, the painting itself lays somewhere in the middle of these two shots.  :)

Dog Sketch in Class

VERY quick in-class sketch with my students. One of them got a new dog, a German Shepherd/Bloodhound mix. Haha!  He looked like this... well, except that he wasn’t green.

Quite a funny fellow, his eyes didn’t match, and he was the soulful fellow.  I’m sure he will be getting lots of love.  Actually, I think he looks kind of cute green!

My Current Painting Commission

Here’s a small hint for my current work in progress, a commission which is getting close to being done. I do commissions on all requests, and the process is really quite fun for the buyer as well.

More on this soon when 1) it’s finished, and 2) I have buyer approval!

My Art Studio

Black and white in my studio. What better way to celebrate a cold winter’s day?

Chinese Characters in Art

I love learning how ancient Chinese pictograms slowly changed into the characters they have today. Working it out in paint. This character means dragon.  Can you see his legs?

Art Studio Paint

I set aside a project and the paints I’m using for it to paint a commission. There’s a subtle hint here as to what my project is!
