Without You

A poem for Evan. I composed this on a bike ride March 28 and spoke it into the notes on my phone. Usually I edit about five times but this one laid down in my thoughts pretty much the way you see it here. My route takes an hour fifteen so I worked it out as I rode.

Without You

Rich damp fragrant earth
Offers sweet bursting life to me.

Swinging sliding tickling playground laughter
From a distance echos.

The path before me is strewn
With discarded petals of greening life,

Warm fresh breeze
Banishes cold dreary days.

And so we begin again.
But this time, without you.
