Picasso Quote

I popped this Picasso quote on one of my paintings and agree wholeheartedly. Honestly, I work like a dog.  I don’t even have time for UN-inspiration.  If I am ever uninspired I just go to my studio and clean brushes, sharpen pencils, leaf through sketchpads, look at my artist trading cards. So, while I’m doing that I’m getting things done AND... before I know it, I’m inspired again!  I am usually the opposite of uninspired; I have so many ideas that I can’t turn them all into paintings, sketches or notes.  There are just too many!  How about you? By the way, this painting is IMPOSSIBLE to photograph! See the lines through it? That’s the clear, shiny varnish which I laid down showing brushstrokes.  Cool, Burt I suppose I’ll never get a good pic.  Oh, well. :/

Inspiring Art Quote

I believe that artists of every type are commissioned to speak for all of humankind. I myself feel a deep responsibility to use the gift, and sometimes receive comments that surprise me about how what I created has so deeply affected another person.  All I know is that if I’m true to myself and true to my God, then what I feel and create will touch others. I’ve also learned through the years that if I stay true to myself and true to my God and DON’T receive affirmation for my work, that’s okay too.  I know in my heart that I followed the call and did the work, and that’s what’s important.  (my quote is on a portion of one of my paintings).

This painting is so warm it’s just what we need on a cold January day. Love!

Hands and Rembrandt

Andrew Wyeth quote on my hands.  ‘One’s art goes as far and as deep as one’s love goes.’  Very true.  Pictured here I’m holding a little terracotta pot which is a replica of the pots Rembrandt used.  We visited his five story home in Amsterdam, now a museum, which was a true delight.  I use my little pots for paint mixing and charcoal holding as I’ve never been one to buy something and let it sit to preserve it.  I think Rembrandt would have appreciated my choice.

I worked hard to get the above shot; below is a candid one I took so you could see his initial on the side, and my lovely hammer, of course.

I think my little pot gets better with each use.  Anyway, there you have it!  Have a great day!

Creative Inspiration

This is so very true.  I’m wondering if other creatives feel the same way? There are so many things I’m interested in, so many things I want to learn, so many things I want to try.  There is always something I want to create and it takes time alone to think in order to produce.  And ya know what?  If you are good company with yourself, you’ll be good company for others as well.

This is my own quote on a mixed media piece I did. ❤️
