Cat and Bird Painting

Pippy’s Adventures continued. If a cat and bird can be kind to each other, then we can be kind to everyone as well. Let’s do it, shall we?

Many of these beautiful paints are handmade and very special indeed. The flow from one to the next and pattern of colors makes for a charming little piece. I’ve got the entire series, many of which I haven’t posted, on my website at:

Birds and Cats!

Here’s the continuing saga of Pippy the Adventuresome cat and his friends!

He does just want to come for a visit!

These are very special paints - many of which are handmade watercolors. You can see that many of them are very shiny - they’re full of mica! There are also some paints called ‘color shift,’ which change color under different light or the change of an angle.

This is one in a series of Pippy the Cat paintings which I have for sale at:

New Bird Painting

Birds on a wire. I adore the paints marching across and changing colors. I think the birds do too!

I have ALL KINDS of beliefs about what’s going on in the world right now; many are very STRONG. But right now, just for this little bird moment, let’s be happy.

Baby Bird Painting

Now THIS one makes me LAUGH! If you want a piece of art in your home that will start conversations and cheer everyone, this is the bird. I mean painting. Named Abominable Baby Bird, you better come and get it before it comes to get YOU. Find it at www.colorcatstudios101.etsy.com.

You can find lots of photos of the painting there as well. This is one of four paintings in my Copper Beach series. All four paintings employ the same colors: blue, white, tan, black, copper and gold. Oh MAN, I stepped in something good this time!

It looks as if that baby bird is just stretching his wings trying to figure out how to use them so he can MOVE!

Oh my GOODNESS i love the way these paints flowed!!!

Turkish tour

Another look at those natural color-sources. I asked about cochineal, because you couldn't just have that on a shelf, and yes, their deep reds are cochineal. It's a South American insect that is a parasite to the prickly pear. Owners deposit them into their fields, and blow them off and collect them once they're big. Then they crush their fat, bloody bodies for a nice, natural, red dye. I'm so happy to report that the rug we purchased has cochineal in it. I'm also happy to report that it's likely in your lipstick and blush, ladies, and if you drink cherry coke - it's in there, too! :)

'My' Chair

At our theatre the other night we had an orchestra meeting after I taught my sets class. After about a half hour, someone pulled me out of the meeting for a few minutes. When I came back, everyone in the room was laughing and pointing to the nice, uh, black leather chair. I had paint on the back of my shirt, and it permanently smeared all over the leather! The last time I went in the office, I noticed that someone had taped up the sign you see here. One way to lay claim to something! Well, it's not the first time, let's see, there's my driveway with many colors of paint, our carpet with Peter Pan green footprints, my car with yellow paint on the seat, my gloves, half of my clothes. It seems like everyone likes my painted clothes, kind of like already-broken-in-jeans. Maybe I should start a clothing line!
