Artist at Work

All four of these photos are of the same cool piece!  I’ve been experimenting with layers of pencil, linoleum prints and color changing watercolors.  You can see that as the light and direction changes, so does the color, in my little piece and also the colors on the background card. By the time we get out of quarantine I’m going to have all kinds of art to sell at the art shows that have been cancelled and rescheduled.  If you see anything you like in my posts these days they’re all for sale, just message me. This one is for sale. It’s a very special 2 1/2” x 3 1/2”
If you like COLOR, you’ll love my work!
Hard to believe these are all the same piece, isn’t it? It is soooo GORGEOUS in person!

I absolutely adore the layers, textures and colors.  There is so much to look at here!  :)
You can also find my work at:

Steampunk Gears Painting and Prints

One of my most popular paintings ever!  Although sold (thanks, Hope!) it is now available as prints and on merchandise.  I am really happy about this one. 🙂. You can find it in its different versions at:

I really love this Steampunky (is that a word?  It is now!) painting of gears.  So much to look at.

Bad Art

It’s what happens to half-finished bad paintings.

Step one:

Step two:

Paint it all under - now.  I’m free of it.  Time to begin again.

One thing a creative person does is stab out and do new things, even if scary, all the time.  And another thing an artist does is continually practice.  Practice, practice, practice.  One cannot be afraid to fail, one can only be afraid to not try.  This painting was bad.  NO big deal; I learned stuff.  I’ll take my ‘learnings’ and go on and continue to improve.  I acknowledge that it was bad, covered it up and go on a little bit better and a little bit smarter.  I guess that makes me the winner!

Paint Pouring Art

I love this! Because it’s covered with smooth, shiny resin the photos aren’t the best and are very reflective, but you get the idea.   That shine deepens the colors and just makes it gorgeous, I’m just sorry I didn’t take pics before I gave it a resin coat.  The reds and blues work so nicely together and the pop of black and white just makes it fun to look at.  Throughout the painting you will see a gunmetal shiny grey sparkle that just pulls the whole thing together.

I created this on an 8” x 8” square cradled birch and the colors flow over all sides to make the entire thing look like art. Rich, high-quality acrylics make this an archival, non-fading heirloom. At $65.00, that’s quite a bargain and a fantabulous one of a kind gift!  Find it at www.colorcatstudios101.etsy.com.

Note: this is an extremely thick layer of acrylics.  What do you do if it gets dusty?  Take a damp cloth to it.  That’s all!  The surface is impermeable.

Baby Bird Painting

Now THIS one makes me LAUGH!  If you want a piece of art in your home that will start conversations and cheer everyone, this is the bird.  I mean painting.  Named Abominable Baby Bird, you better come and get it before it comes to get YOU.  Find it at www.colorcatstudios101.etsy.com.

You can find lots of photos of the painting there as well. This is one of four paintings in my Copper Beach series.  All four paintings employ the same colors: blue, white, tan, black, copper and gold.  Oh MAN, I stepped in something good this time!

It looks as if that baby bird is just stretching his wings trying to figure out how to use them so he can MOVE!

Oh my GOODNESS i love the way these paints flowed!!!

Paint Pouring Art

Getting ready for fall shows and Christmas!  These three photos show what different lighting does to a piece of art.  Getting the true colors is always a challenge.  But oh, man, I am loving this one so much no matter how it photographs!

Watch my website, www.colorcatstudios101.etsy.com for all manner of awesome, original gifts; there’s all kinds of wonder there and I will soon be adding every day!

Isn’t this just so cool?  I’m making coasters, of which this is one, 6x6” squares for hanging, 10x10” squares for hanging y mas!

If I had to guess, its true colors lay somewhere between door #1 and door #2.  #3 is leaning a little toward the blue side.

Sketchbook Inspiration, Trains!

Just a little piece of crazy from one of my sketchpads. I grew up on trains and they hold a neverending charm for me.  If you ever wonder where my ideas come from, they come from, well, everywhere! BUT, many of my finished paintings come from goofy on-the-fly quick draws like this.

My color choices make me think circus, which in turn makes me think I’d like to do a little series of paintings with the circus theme.  So much to do, so little time!
