Rock Wall Series Painting
Well, this one sold before I got to show you but I thought you might like to see it anyway. This is the fourth painting in my Rock Wall series and the fourth to sell in so many days. I can’t keep up with you guys - who knew? I guess others love plants as much as I do! I’ll try to post my next one here tomorrow to give you a chance as well before it sells.

Art Supplies
I’m curious what your favorite creative supplies are? I’m pretty sure that mine are ‘whatever is closest to my hand at the moment.’ Even pencils. I won’t call it ‘the lowly pencil,’ because these days they’re anything but! I’ve got a really heavy hand, though, so when I’m using pencils I break them all the time. Like ALL THE TIME. But it’s okay, because I’m laying down that luscious color. Yummy!
So you? Yarn? Cross stitch? (I’ll let you in on a secret - I absolutely cannot concentrate to count. I could do neither of these - I’ve tried!!

‘Working Title’ Series
All my life I’ve been a girl that likes sparkly, shiny things and these tiny paintings are really fitting the bill for me. I have a new series coming in about a week. Right now it’s ‘Working Title Series,’ but I’m thinking about maybe ‘Pathways.’ I want the title to give a feeling of hope. If you have any good ideas, let me know!

Every painting will have a rocky, cobblestone path. Anyway, help me think of a name if you can, aaaandddd, happy Labor Day!

Oh goodness, I love these! These have both holographic and colorshifting paint. Hard to photograph and much more beautiful in person.

Rock and Root Painting
Where would YOU put this? Need a little glow? I am just so excited about these paintings! They glow like nobody’s business and just enrich our home in the most unexpected places. I just listed this one tonight in my shop for your perusing pleasure.

Different angles make the paints reflect differently.

The work Behind a Painting
How do you prepare yourself for a piece of work? As for me, my paintings don’t just jump out. Idea, brainstorm, lots of thumbnail sketches . Finally, getting the drawing onto the paper or canvas and then working out the colors. This swatch? I had a painting ready and wanted to choose three good, warm colors that would compliment each other. So, when you see anybody’s art , appreciate it for how much consideration and work has gone into it. AND... this is a hint of things to come!!

Mixed Media Print, a Complicated Mix
This one’s called ‘In a Dream.’ If you know me you know I like a complicated mix of color texture and design. This piece is a combination of all these things with the added bonus of shimmery paints below the linoleum block print. As we all need some cheering up these days, my mission is to put really great art at an affordable price into everyone’s hands. Super cool art, little price. 🙂. Find this super cool, cheery little piece for only $25.00 at
colorcatstudios101.etsy.com

Nice polish, too, right? :)
This piece is soo beautiful in person. Here it looks okay; in person it fairly glows. Oh, it DOES glow!

Back to School Stickers
Know anybody going back to school? Wow!! Boy could you cheer them up with these holographic stickers! Soo gorgeous. Find them at
. You can also find a couple videos there which show off their color-changing, holo goodness.

These are the four holographic stickers I’ve got on my website right now.
Pretty glorious, huh. As an aside, I spent an hour photographing and videoing these stickers. When it came time to load them on my site, I found that all the stickers had little pieces of dust on them. Had to ditch all the photos and start over again. Oh, brother!

Comparing Acrylic to Watercolor
Do you prefer one over the other?
First painting: Acrylic
Second painting: Watercolor and ink
For me watercolors tend to be more ‘free.’ I like to quickly draw, quickly paint and have it be a little crazy.
With acrylics I get a little pickier and can spend a LOT of time on them. You can see that the BEGGAR’S face is detailed, but the farther you get from his face, the wilder it gets. That’s simply my style, and helps you focus on what’s important instead of, say, his tail. So... which do you like better? :)

Tiny Watercolor
I’m curious which you like best - the first one with the background, or the second one without the background?
Just a little watercolor sketch inspired by that teeny little branch I found on our recycling can.
Just a little watercolor sketch inspired by that teeny little branch I found on our recycling can.
Sometimes I do little sketches like this as a segue into the big stuff, sometimes this is all I have time for, and often because it inspires me. Also note the background color in the top half is Daniel Smith’s Fuchsite Genuine. It is made up of ground fuchsite and has a smooth lay down with a bit of a sheen to it. LOVE.

My Painting Matches the Clouds
After spending days painting my kitty I looked up and noticed that I had chosen God’s color scheme. ❤️ Thank you, God, for making us creative people and for allowing us to appreciate your creativity.

Wow. The sky was sooo beautiful last night. It seemed like a verification that, yes indeed, I am doing exactly what God planned for me.

Cat Painting
Since I seem to have this cat theme going lately I might as well continue with it. This is my baby watching over me. When I woke up from my post-surgery stupor there he was, laying there looking down over me. I did a sketch of him directly onto a canvas in bed and painted it later. I don’t even remember making that sketch! It was a bad surgery and a hard recovery. Anyway, a couple weeks later I had this painting so that’s ONE good thing! He’s for sale. 12”x24” on canvas, wired for hanging. You can find this fur baby at
Colorcatstudios101.etsy.com
It’s a painting that’s hard to part with, but I still have my furry feline watcher. Some of these paintings need to go so I can paint new ones!

Indigo Fantasy
If you have to be home it’d sure be nice to stare at something gorgeous, huh?
I finally got this painting posted for sale now on my website,
I LOVE IT! I kept it super sketchy for movement and glazed it in layers and layers of deep blues and violets. Because of the glazing it takes on a glowing, stained glass appearance in person. The colors are super hard to capture but it’s a combination of all these put together.
This one, for example, is far too purple, and has too much light shining on it...
This one’s nice...
The many layers of glazing make this glow like a stained glass window, one color beneath another. ❤️
Another closeup...
$700.00. There’s a lot more info on my website and I also give studio tours - and free gifts with each tour! Just ask!

Holographic Stickers!
Pretty sure my students have heard me say this before. Like every...single...class.
I lead them into another room to look at our art history, and on the way back to our room I will say, ‘Let’s go make stuff.’ :)

My quote is sitting on my lovely new holographic stickers which I just popped onto my site today. Cool, huh? Find them here:
Note: The stickers are 3 inches square and I’m selling them on my site 2 stickers for $5.00. :). COOL!!!

Cat Watching Over Me
Anybody have an animal that watches over you? Honestly, now and then I paint a piece that I’d love to keep. However, I don’t want to drown in paintings either, SO... I would actually love to sell him! This piece is called ‘The Watcher’ because my baby sat like this and faithfully watched over me after my surgery. You can find him and all kinds of beautiful, original pieces at
Note: This is literally half of the painting. The other gorgeous half is on my website noted above. Wink wink.

Phoenix Rising Painting
I decided to orient this painting vertically because I like the way that red wing stands out; hence I named it ‘Phoenix Rising.’ However, if you give it a turn to the horizontal it looks mysteriously like a chicken!!
Any way you decide to orient it, I’ve now got it available on mugs, pillows, stickers, phone cases and more. You can find it here:
This will definitely put a bright spot in your home, whether you need a phoenix rising or... a chicken!
