New Cat Painting

This painting, which I named ‘Oh, Pippy,’ (for all the times we say exactly that when he gets into trouble) will be revealed this evening in its entirety.  The crazy, wild background symbolizes all the trouble and messes he gets into.  For sale.

Here he is in his unfinished state, wild, crazy background to indicate his wild, crazy, troublemaking self. 🤭
You will find him tonight at colorcatstudios101.etsy.com

Pippy’s Adventures Painting Series

As you go into the new week, be kind.  Remember, if a cat and bird can be friends, then we all can be kind to everyone.

I began this series of paintings, Pippy’s Adventures, after our son’s cat, Pippy.  This loveable, unforgettable cat has gotten into more trouble than all the 30 plus cats we’ve had in our life.  Getting stuck on the roof, getting stuck up trees, meeting neighbor cats not-in-a-good-way, bringing home lots of... small animals...  Every other day or so one of us says ‘bring the antibiotic and come and help me with Pippy’ as a matter of course.  Life is an adventure with this kooky, intrepid cat that I tried not to love.  Didn’t work, little stinker.  Anyway, I have just a few Pippy paintings left in my shop.

Origin of Cat and Bird Paintings

Where did all these Pippy’s Adventures watercolor paintings come from?  I painted this red painting, a big acrylic that’s 20”x30” maybe eight years ago.  I named it Big Furry Bird. 🙂

It sold and I have always wanted to revisit it with more work.  Then our son Noah got this cat Pippy - THE MOST TROUBLE TO EVER HAVE BEEN BORN WITH FUR AND FOUR FEET.  His escapades inspired me to get back to it.  So... ‘Pippy’s Adventures’ were born.

My desire was to make political art in this turbulent time, but I chose to make cheery art that speaks in a different way.  If a cat can be friends with birds - then I think we can be kind to everyone.  Let’s be kind.  I think for now - these are just right.  With all the covid troubles we just need some happy thoughts.

As you can see by my fingers holding this one - they’re tiny! They’re either 2 1/2”x3 1/2” , 4x6” or 5x7”.  Priced for everyone and will fit everywhere. :)

And remember, if you spend a $35.00 minimum on my website until TOMORROW, you can choose one of my cool hologram stickers and I’ll send it along with your purchase. 🙂

Here are some of my stickers.  They’re holographic stickers made from my paintings. :)

Cat and Bird Painting

Pippy’s Adventures continued.  If a cat and bird can be kind to each other, then we can be kind to everyone as well.  Let’s do it, shall we?

Many of these beautiful paints are handmade and very special indeed.  The flow from one to the next and pattern of colors makes for a charming little piece.  I’ve got the entire series, many of which I haven’t posted, on my website at:

Birds and Cats!

Here’s the continuing saga of Pippy the Adventuresome cat and his friends!
He does just want to come for a visit!
These are very special paints - many of which are handmade watercolors.  You can see that many of them are very shiny - they’re full of mica!  There are also some paints called ‘color shift,’ which change color under different light or the change of an angle.

This is one in a series of Pippy the Cat paintings which I have for sale at:

Cat Painting Finished!!

May I present my newest painting!  Once more I have given birth.  That’s what it feels like!

This is ‘The Beggar.’ You can find many works like this on my website.  Doesn’t he have a beautiful face? ❤️
This is an acrylic on canvas.  I used a photo of our cat, sitting on my studio floor, begging for me to love him.
There.  Everything cleaned up. :)

My Painting Matches the Clouds

After spending days painting my kitty I looked up and noticed that I had chosen God’s color scheme. ❤️ Thank you, God, for making us creative people and for allowing us to appreciate your creativity.

Wow.  The sky was sooo beautiful last night. It seemed like a verification that, yes indeed, I am doing exactly what God planned for me.

Cat Painting Finished!

Belly Boy!  I’m so glad to show my my latest painting  which I actually did name Belly Boy!  I tried naming him Comfortable Cat but that was just too boring.

This is our Maine Coon with his double coat and super-pettable peachy belly.

This photo, with my super-gorgeous model, shows how I package my paintings for mailing.  Mounted and sealed in an acrylic envelope.

You can find this painting on my website with more pictures which I took in different lights so you can see how it shows itself off.  It’s 10”x7” - not too big, not too small... juust  right.  Watercolour

Cat Painting

Since I seem to have this cat theme going lately I might as well continue with it. This is my baby watching over me. When I woke up from my post-surgery stupor there he was, laying there looking down over me. I did a sketch of him directly onto a canvas in bed and painted it later.  I don’t even remember making that sketch!  It was a bad surgery and a hard recovery.  Anyway, a couple weeks later I had this painting so that’s ONE good thing!  He’s for sale.  12”x24” on canvas, wired for hanging. You can find this fur baby at
Colorcatstudios101.etsy.com
It’s a painting that’s hard to part with, but I still have my furry feline watcher. Some of these paintings need to go so I can paint new ones!

Wear Your Mask!

What is that crazy woman doing anyway with all these cats?’  Well, I’m glad you asked.  I am printing the daylights out of these masked cats because tomorrow I’m going to start giving them away!

Yay - free art!  Keep an eye out for tomorrow and in the meantime, WEAR YOUR MASK!  This is an original print I made from a block that I carved.  Each one is different.
Which one do you like best? They definitely all have their own character - color means so much!
This last one is printed on color-changing shimmery paint.  Yummy!

And don’t forget, as we start opening up - keep your distance and stay healthy.  Wear that mask!

KITTY Cat for Sale

Oh man, I love this one!  I named this one ‘The Watcher.’  I kept my brushstrokes loose to give you the feel of a really soft, pettable cat, and also lightened up on the acrylics with many layers of glaze to keep him looking FLUFFY.  12”x24” it’s for sale on my website, www.colorcatstudios101.etsy.com.   You can find lots of other photos of this as well.

Big Cat Painting

Here’s looking at you. ‘Those eyes!’  That’s what most people say when they see this big cat.  I achieved that effect by painting extremely thin layers of colors on top of a bed of gold so they really DO shine!

I’ve painted lions, tigers, bears (oh, my!) raccoons, wolves and dogs, definitely time to throw a cat into the mix.  Here are some pictures of my painting, entitled ‘Smile,’ which has a Cheshire Cat attitude and a BIG attitude at that since the painting is 24”x30”!  Painted with golds, bronzes and a deep grey paint loaded with pulverized mica, it glows in all kinds of ways (and is hard to photograph).  I’ve got several photos in different lighting so you can see what happens as a good portion of this painting is reflective.

You can find it at www.colorcatstudios101.etsy.com.  For sale to a good home - a pet you don’t even have to feed!  $800.00 for this beautiful painting which is heirloom quality in every way.

There you have it! One very big cat with one very big attitude, and maybe a secret or two. ;)

Lion Watercolor Sold

Sold! My Door Knocker Lion.  I painted these heavily saturated watercolors on a super heavy, smooth watercolor paper which insured this gorgeous lay-down.  Once finished, I drew my lion in first lightly in pencil, then went over it in pen; not that I would ever make any mistakes, but ya never know! ;). It probably wouldn’t have mattered anyway, because if you DO make any mistakes on this type of paper, there’s no erasing anyway!

My lion painting was inspired by Narnia, the show we put on.  I was in charge of sets and also played in the orchestra for the shows.  I wish I could find the files but I’d have to dig deep to find the Wardrobe I painted.  It was lovely and sported a door-knocker lion as well as all kinds of lovely things in fake, painterly bas relief.

Here’s a closeup.  I couldn’t have been happier with the way this turned out.

And another... when you use super nice (expensive) watercolor paper, this is the kind of gradation of colors you can expect.  Since this was inspired by Narnia, I used highlights on this painting the same way I did in the show.

I’m so glad this painting sold to someone I love very much.  May she get as much enjoyment out of him as I have.

Humorous Painting

This quote makes me chuckle.  I think at some point every artist feels this way.  I popped the quote onto one of my sold paintings, which also makes me chuckle.  I named it ‘Big Furry Bird.’  Pretty sure THAT big, furry bird just wants to be friends. 🙂.

Photographing My Art

As photographing my paintings is so intense, I’ve been working on it myself with my timer.  Of all the photos I took today, I think I got only one good one.  The rest? Painting not square, painting upside down, oops - I turned it around and got my coat, my nose looks too big (well, it IS a proud family heritage!) too bright, stupid pose, stupid smile, on and ON! ANYWAY, I did this so you can see the size comparison.  Good things DO come in small packages! For sale.

This one came out pretty well, and the painting is square to the photograph.

Painting crooked....

Whoops... didn’t get to the chair in time...

Much too bright and really stupid pose - move camera!

Oh brother!  I reversed it!  (Nice coat, though!)

Okay, I GIVE UP!

Anyway, here is the painting once again so you can actually see the nice colors and details:
