I finally got this painting posted for sale now on my website,
Another closeup...
These print making days have turned out to be really fun for boy my students and myself. LOVE making prints!
As you can see here, some of my printing plates are repeated patterns. Their assignment is to brainstorm with thumbnails for their own repeated patterns. Can’t wait to see what the students design!
I teach homeschool students ages 9-18 in two locations: www.hisclasses.org and www.ttcclasses.com. I don’t take students mid-year but our schedule for 2020-2021 will be up around the end of April. Here are the links:
Now THESE are great faces! We’re studying da Vinci and learning about expression. I am absolutely LOVING some of the drawings my students came up with copying Leonardo’s monstrosities. Aren’t they fabulous?
This acrylic pour is just so beautiful, and the colors so rich I think I could eat it. Some of the colors remind me of a creamsicle and next to those peaches all I can think to name it is ‘Luscious.’ If you could see it in person and see the depth and breadth of all these colors glowing it up together I bet you’d think so too!
I created this on an 8” x 8” square cradled birch and the colors flow over the edges to make even the sides look like art. I also signed it on the side because I didn’t want to disturb the beautiful flow of colors. Rich, high-quality acrylics make this an archival, non-fading heirloom. At $60.00, that’s quite a bargain and a great one of a kind gift!
Note: this is an extremely thick layer of acrylics. What do you do if it gets dusty? Take a damp cloth to it. That’s all! The surface is impermeable.
You can find more pictures of this painting and more information at my website, www.colorcatstudios101.etsy.com. Come and find me and knock out a few Christmas gifts with pleasure from your own home!
This was my morning layout to get resin on all these pieces. It was an adventure, to be sure. I learned a few things - 1. An assistant is a must (thanks, Noah and Melody)! 2. If you work with resin in 100 degree heat, the exothermic reaction will kick into high gear and the resin will burn your hand (even through gloves,) and 3. Whilst getting your hand burned turn off the blowtorch so you don’t start a secondary fire. This said, I am READY to continue the work EARLY in the supposed cool of the morning and have made up my mind to never do this with my art classes. I like my students to have adventures, but not quite THIS much adventure! Watch here and my website in the coming days for all these lovely coasters, and a couple small paintings, to be added. :)
I decided to give you a little tour around my latest painting. This one is a 16x20 paint pour. I wanted to incorporate whole bunches of cheery, complimentary colors, a lot of gold and some iridescents for a downright, riotous festival. Hmm... I should name it festival. Festival it is! Now, to cure, then I have to varnish and wire it. Look for wonderful new stuff being added to my website regularly as I get ready for upcoming shows and Christmas giving. Super bad reflections in this first one; it’s mirror-shiny. :)
After the entire painting, here are some closeups:
Oh my goodness, I love the way the colors meld and how you can see through the layers.
The above one, where it looks kind of grey, it’s really blues, whites and the iridescents that make it look that way from this angle.
I’ll be putting it up as soon as I get it wired. If you’re interested, let me know right away as I’m sure this one’s going to go fast!
SOOOO BEAUTIFUL!
Don’t you just love splatter painted things? Here are some of the many I have available. These adorable little bags make life FUN! I use one as a small purse (just right for phone, keys a lipstick and money), one for pencils and one for makeup storage; I’m sure you can think of many ways to use them beyond this!
They’re all canvas with zippers. Check out my website at colorcatstudios101.etsy.com to find a whole variety of splatter painted bags; they’re just what the doctor ordered for some summer fun. My bags are grey, charcoal, black and a nice natural tan.
Cool, huh? :). I have about 30 posted online so you can take your pick. As long as you are there, pick out a couple for Christmas and ease your November burden!
I was hired to paint this doggo to be given as a surprise gift. He’s so shifty he reminds me of one of those cigar smoking, poker playing dogs. Their photo had him stuffed into a spandex suit, haha! The background, although it doesn’t photograph well, is gold. I’m going to miss seeing this bad boy in our little corner of the world when he gets shipped off. Yes, I do commissions. You can contact me here or at colorcatstudios@gmail.com.
It’s so nice to have hired help to do the dusting. And what is it about outdoor photography, anyway, that invites so many feline helpers? Whatever it is, I’m glad for it. They just want in the picture too. This piece, named ‘Funny One,’ is a mixed media piece into which I incorporated the good old funny papers - the comics. All my favorites, of course. :). Always makes me smile. Available at
colorcatstudios101.etsy.comThis sweet girl is always with me. It’s no wonder she’s in the pic, she is a Maine Coone and follows me around like a dog. That’s one of their character traits and what makes them so precious. The faithfulness and companionship of a dog, the easy care and loving of a cat.
Well, everyone needs a Tardis now and then. At least a whole lot of pretty fanatical people! I painted this Tardis on a regular old door, and it was auctioned off for a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity a couple years ago. I guess that makes this Throwback Saturday.
Just getting dirty with my advanced art students today. Charcoal. Gotta love it. Honestly, there are few things I would rather do than spend creative time with kids. Love them so much.
